Not Just Any Car Club: Monte Millennium Generations - December 7th, 2007
There are clubs in existence for almost every make and model of car: mustangs, corvettes, pt cruisers - the list is endless. Most of them feature photo galleries, classified ads, and articles about how to completely trick out your ride.
Then there’s Monte Millennium Generations.
Established in 2004, Monte Millennium Generations focuses on the Chevrolet Monte Carlo, and, as with the kinds of clubs mentioned above, it offers a gallery of user-submitted pictures, links to cars for sale, and technical articles. Unlike many other car clubs, however, this one also hosts events and gets involved in local charities, using a common interest - the love of the Monte Carlo - to unite its membership.
The love of this elegant car is evident in every page of the site, from the main page, to the storefront where one can purchase logo gear like t-shirts, watches, and mouse pads, but it is most evident on the history page which offers an evolution of the model, as well as an overview of different advertising campaigns.
As well as respect and admiration for the Monte Carlo itself, the Monte Millennium Generations website displays class and elegance. Even the events they endorse support this tone. Rather than rallies, there are celebrations of membership anniversaries, and links to such auto shows as the Concours d’Elegance.
Just as the Chevrolet Monte Carlo has always welcomed drivers and passengers to a driving experience that is both luxurious and comfortable, this club welcomes members from all walks of life, who own any model year of the car they so love.
The Monte Carlo is not just any car.
Monte Millennium Generations is not just any car club.

Celebrate the Monte Carlo at the Monte Millennium Generations (MMG) Club
Those who love Monte Carlos from today or yesterday can join others to celebrate these cars at the Monte Millennium Generations (MMG) club. Whether they own a Monte Carlo from the 1970s or the present, Monte Carlo owners are welcome to join. Monte Carlo enthusiasts from all around can come together in this club to attend shows, meets, and enjoy other fun events year 'round.
A member's Monte Carlo may be restored or original, modified, under construction, or some members might not even own a Monte Carlo of their own. All fans of the car are welcome to join the club, regardless of car ownership status.
About MMG
The club is based in Detroit, Michigan, which happens to be the Motor City Capital of the World. It is a non-profit organization. Founded in 2004, the club dedicates all time and energy to the Monte Carlo. The founder, Thomas B. Johnson II, decided to start the club after being a member of the National Monte Carlo Owner Association for a couple of years. He, along with several friends, began planning the club two years earlier.
Due to lack of support, the club never grew into anything then. But in 2004, things started coming together. The group researched, made many phone calls, sent many emails and letters, until finally the ball started rolling. Today, they strive to become the most professional club for Monte Carlos.
New membership information
Memberships are available for one or two years for anyone living in the U.S. or Canada. A form is available at the club's Web site for joining. The benefits of becoming a member are many. Members receive a membership card with a personal identification number. They receive a window decal with the MMG logo. Many listings of companies that offer parts, restorations, and more are available to members. Members can receive discounts just for being a member from participating businesses for parts, upholstery, limos, racing stuff, t-shirts, paint, auto care supplies, and more.
Members may also post photos of their cars at the club's Web site and can possibly have their car featured in the "Baddest Built Monte Carlo Calendar."
Those who are interested in helping the club to grow may become "commissioners." A commissioner is someone who earns money while signing on new members for the club. They must sign up at least five members each month. They will receive new member packages, which include a membership registration form, two decals, one dash plaque, one membership card, and one MMG key chain.
Members who do not have a local chapter in their city may start an MMG chapter in their area and receive all the benefits MMG has to offer.
MMG events
MMG members participate in a number of events throughout the year. These include the club's own Monte Millennium Generations Anniversary Meet and Greet Party. There are also the Concours d'Elegance, Woodward Dream Cruise, Monte Madness, SEMA Show, Motor City Nationals, Super Chevy Show, Michigan State Fair, Cruisin' Gratriot, North America International Show, Cruisin' Downriver, Cruisin' Telegraph, and Autorama.
The club also sponsors events and helps local charities through shows and competitions, car events, barbecues, cookouts, and more.
MMG Web site
At the club's official Web site , one can learn about the club and its events. Also, there's an online store selling club gear such as t-shirts, hats, watches, teddy bears, mouse pads, and flags. A news section is provided with up-to-date information about the club or Web site updates as well as event updates.
In the Web site's history section, there's a detailed history about Monte Carlo. There are old ads and brochures from various years of makes and models of the Monte Carlo. There are early concepts and designs of the Monte Carlo. There's even a list of movies and television shows in which the Monte Carlo was used or featured.
In the Web site's photo gallery, there are pictures of members' Monte Carlos from all different years. These illustrate the old and the new for those who like seeing how the cars have transformed over the years. Those who need technical data about each year will find lots of useful information in the technical section of the Web site. For each generation, specifications and other information are given such as packages available for the model, engine type and displacement, and models that were available for each year.
Also at the club's Web site are forums where members or visitors may chat about the Monte Carlo, exchange news, information, photos, technical advice, events announcements, and more. The forums also include "for sale" and "wanted" sections for cars, parts, and other items.
MMG's Web site provides a "links" section as well with helpful resources for many Monte Carlo needs. Other Monte Carlo clubs are listed here as well.
From the 1970s until today, the Monte Carlo has come a long way. Though it has been through many revisions and model types, the Monte Carlo is still loved by many people for its spaciousness, durability, look and feel, and performance capabilities. Those wanting to learn more about these wonderful automobiles should join other Monte Carlo fans today at Monte Millennium Generations. |

2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo
The 2006 Monte Carlo was the first of the line to offer a V-8 engine, but the 2007 model, which comes in three trim levels (LS, LT, SS) offers it in the SS version of the car. All three trim levels come with a four-speed automatic transmission. The LS and LT come with a 3.5 liter V-6 engine that produces 211 horsepower and provides 214 pounds-feet of torque, is compatible with both regular gasoline and E85, while the SS's V-8 is a 5.3 liter engine generating 303 hp, and 323 pounds-feet of torque. It also comes with a cylinder-deactivation system that allows the engine to operate on only four cylinders when the load is light (during downhill coasting, for example) which can improve mileage by as much as 12 percent.
The exterior of the 2007 Monte Carlo sports large headlights, which contain three independent lighting units each. It also has flat-bladed windshield wipers that clean better because their pressure against the glass is more consistent than traditional blades. The LS has 16-inch wheels and a suspension that is fairly soft, while the LTs wheels are 17 inches. The SS has a firmer suspension and 18-inch wheels, and also has a more distinct front end, with a dual-split grill standard, and rally stripes available as an option. All Monte Carlos have a rear spoiler, but the one on the SS most obviously shows off its NASCAR lineage.
Interior features of the 2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo include seating for five with improved lumbar support at all passengers, with optional leather upholstery. The instrument panel has a design reminiscent of an airplane cockpit, with an updated gauge layout and chrome accenting the gearshift lever, while cruise control buttons are on the steering wheel.
There is no automatic climate control (previous versions of the car offered this) but there is manual dual-zone climate control, and one can have a power driver's seat and heated front seats installed as an optional upgrade. There is a choice of three different sound systems ranging from a base CD/stereo to a CD/MP3 player combo with optional XM Satellite Radio. The very top level audio system features a six-CD changer and speakers by Bose. OnStar is a standard feature, but keyless remote start is only available as an option.
The starting MSRP for the 2007 Monte Carlo ranges from $21,015 to $27,740.
